The PACT Act will bring these changes:
Expands and extends eligibility for VA health care for Veterans with toxic exposures and Veterans of the Vietnam, Gulf War, and post-9/11 eras
Adds 20+ more presumptive conditions for burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic exposures
Adds more presumptive-exposure locations for Agent Orange and radiation
Requires VA to provide a toxic exposure screening to every Veteran enrolled in VA health care
Helps us improve research, staff education, and treatment related to toxic exposures
If you’re a Veteran or survivor, you can file claims now to apply for PACT Act-related benefits
Thank you for the info I follow them and Combat Craig to ensure I’m up to speed but a lot of people need this info. I’m registered for the burn pit and will be attending my screening next week.
The PACT act provides benefits for many veterans. Especially Vietnam Era veterans who were stationed at air bases in Thailand and Guam, to name a few. I'm not a veteran, but I do work in the Oregon VFW Service Office. We have been filing PACT act claims for veterans since the President signed it. Bear in mind, the VA is not actively deciding PACT act claims until after January 1st. There is a major backlog with all the veterans filing. Be patient. The VA is hiring raters and trying to get them trained to adjudicate these claims. A word of caution. Beware of lawyers telling you they can get you to 100%. It is not appropriate for any accredited representative to tell you that. None of us are fortune tellers. Also, if you do choose to go with an attorney, READ THE CONTRACT! The VA limits attorneys in charging up to 20% for compensation claims. That means that whatever you get for a "back payment" the VA pays the attorney 20% of that payment FROM YOUR PAYMENT. If in the future, you apply for an increase, the attorney may be entitled to additional payments on that as well. With Camp Lejeune, it's different and the VA agreed to allow attorneys to charge up to 50%. Please find an accredited representative to assist you in your claims. An accredited veteran service officer is not allowed to charge you anything for the services they provide. Look up your representative or attorney here to ensure they are accredited and are required to follow the rules. https://www.va.gov/ogc/apps/accreditation/index.asp
